Africa’s First AI Summit for Children Launches in Lagos with Kids Tech Fest 2025

In a visionary leap toward inclusive digital education, Lagos will host the inaugural Kids Tech Fest: A Global AI Summit for Children on June 14, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre. This groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by Digital Equity Africa, marks the continent’s first AI summit tailored specifically for children aged 6 to 16. With the theme “Generation AI: Shaping the Future, One Mind at a Time”, the summit aims to inspire early engagement with Artificial Intelligence, nurturing Africa’s future creators, innovators, and tech leaders. The Lagos summit will serve as the launchpad for a year-long series of child-focused AI education events set to expand to Abuja, Kano, and Enugu. Through curated learning sessions, hands-on experiments, and immersive exhibitions, young participants will explore the core principles of AI in a safe, playful, and imaginative environment. This initiative not only seeks to expose children to new technology but also to empower them to become creators rather than just consumers of it. Complementing the children’s activities, workshops and keynote addresses are planned for parents and educators. Topics will include digital parenting, cyber safety, AI-focused school curricula, and guidance on tech-oriented career paths. The goal is a holistic approach that engages the entire education ecosystem, ensuring that children have a strong support system as they navigate the future of technology.

A National Movement with Global Ambition

The Lagos summit is just the beginning. As part of its broader vision, Digital Equity Africa will also launch the AI Learning Community, a nationwide digital mentorship program aimed at reaching 100,000 Nigerian children within its first year. This platform will provide continuous access to digital tools, AI learning materials, monthly creative challenges, and interaction with global AI educators. It is designed to maintain momentum beyond the summit and build a sustainable pipeline of digitally literate young Africans.

A highlight of the Lagos event will be the launch of a children’s book titled “Zina and the Thinking Machines.” Written to simplify AI concepts for kids aged 6–12, the story follows a curious Nigerian girl, Zina, who explores AI alongside her eccentric inventor grandfather and a sentient machine. The book promotes curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of African identity in tech storytelling. It is set for distribution across the Global South, ensuring young readers everywhere can access culturally relevant AI education.

“This is more than a conference; it is a national movement,” said Justina Nnam Oha, the convener of Kids Tech Fest. “We are setting the stage for African children to not only understand emerging technologies like AI but also take ownership of them. From Lagos to Kano, we are democratizing access to tech education for all.”
