AltSchool Launches AI for 10M Africans Initiative to Bridge AI Knowledge Gap

Nigerian edtech startup AltSchool Africa has unveiled AI for 10M Africans, an initiative aimed at expanding access to AI education across the continent. The program is designed to help people at all levels—from beginners to professionals—understand and leverage AI.

Speaking at a media conference, AltSchool Africa CEO Adewale Yusuf described the initiative as more than just an educational program.

 “Africans must not be left behind. This is a movement to create opportunities and bridge the knowledge gap,” Yusuf said.

The program is set to begin with free foundational courses, introducing AI concepts, debunking myths, and helping learners understand real-world applications. For those seeking advanced knowledge, paid technical courses will cover areas like machine learning, data science, and AI engineering.

While AltSchool is committed to making AI education widely accessible, Yusuf acknowledged that partnerships with organizations, governments, and industry leaders will be key to the initiative’s success.

Expanding Access Through Language, Hybrid Learning, and Scholarships

To reach a broader audience, AltSchool will offer courses in multiple languages, including Swahili, French, Portuguese, Arabic, and Hausa, ensuring that AI education is accessible beyond English-speaking regions.

According to Foluso Folorunso, Senior Product Designer at AltSchool, the goal is for Africa to move beyond merely consuming AI products and start actively contributing to AI innovation.

 “The world is changing rapidly; AI is taking over industries, and Africa is nowhere to be found,” Folorunso noted.

Beyond AI education, AltSchool is also launching Campus by AltSchool, a hybrid learning model that blends online courses with physical classes. The initiative, set to begin in Lagos and Kigali in Q2 2025, aims to improve course completion rates and create an immersive learning experience.

Additionally, AltSchool has been securing scholarship partnerships with major industry players like Binance and Bybit to support learners who may not be able to afford the courses.

With these new initiatives, AltSchool Africa is positioning itself as a key driver of AI education, equipping millions with the knowledge needed to thrive in an AI-driven world.
