Cassava Technologies, a major tech company with deep African roots, has partnered with Sand Technologies to make artificial intelligence (AI) tools more accessible to businesses across Africa. This exciting collaboration was announced during the Global AI Summit on Africa, held in Kigali, Rwanda. Together, the two companies are aiming to deliver powerful AI solutions and GPU-as-a-service (GPUaas) technology throughout the continent.
With AI quickly becoming a key tool for businesses around the world, many African companies are now looking for ways to adopt and use this technology. However, building and running AI systems often requires expensive, high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs)—something not all businesses can afford or manage on their own. Cassava Technologies wants to change that. By offering its GPU infrastructure as a service, it allows other companies, like Sand Technologies, to use its powerful computing systems without having to invest in their own hardware. This service will help African enterprises access the computing power they need to stay competitive in a fast-moving digital world.
“As more African businesses embrace AI, the need for powerful GPU computing is growing fast,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies. “Through this partnership with Sand Technologies, we can reach more industries and offer them affordable, scalable AI solutions that will drive innovation and growth.”
Sand Technologies is an enterprise AI company that provides solutions to industries such as telecommunications, water, energy, healthcare, and insurance. Although the company operates globally including in the Americas, Europe, and Asia it is now focusing on supporting Africa’s digital transformation. With access to Cassava’s NVIDIA-powered GPU infrastructure, Sand Technologies plans to develop and roll out advanced AI products both in Africa and worldwide.
“We are proud to be working with Cassava at this important time for AI in Africa,” said Fred Swaniker, Founder and CEO of Sand Technologies. “Together, we will bring top-tier AI capabilities to African businesses, helping them modernize and grow.”
This partnership also includes a commitment to develop real-world AI use cases that can be tested, improved, and deployed in sectors across the continent. By combining Cassava’s infrastructure with Sand Technologies’ AI expertise, the two companies will co-create solutions that directly address the challenges faced by African industries today.
Cassava’s collaboration with Sand Technologies is part of its wider mission to support responsible AI growth in Africa. The company recently announced plans to build Africa’s first AI factory a facility that will give businesses, researchers, and governments access to top-tier AI computing power. This factory is expected to help African innovators build smarter products, improve efficiency, and stay globally competitive. Through this partnership, Cassava Technologies is reinforcing its role as a digital enabler for Africa’s future, helping local enterprises unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence.
