Colis.ma, a Moroccan cross-border logistics startup, has raised $300,000 in pre-seed funding from Witamax, a private-backed venture capital firm, to bolster its operations across Morocco and Europe. With the fresh capital, Colis.ma aims to expand its footprint in Morocco’s top five regions and extend its reach across six European countries, as well as explore entry points in West Africa as part of its pan-African expansion plan.
Founded by CEO Issam Darui in 2022, Colis.ma has seen rapid growth, delivering over 50,000 parcels to more than 55 destinations across Europe. Over the last year alone, the company has achieved a fivefold growth rate, with a 380% increase in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) for 2023. Colis.ma’s impressive growth trajectory underscores the startup’s ambition to bridge African and European markets, providing streamlined logistics solutions to individuals and small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alike.
Expanding Logistics Connections Between Africa and Europe
Colis.ma primarily serves individuals with family ties between Morocco and Europe, along with SMEs across sectors like cosmetics, artisanal goods, and organic products. With its newly secured funding, the startup is committed to scaling its operations to support a wider array of SMEs across different industries, ultimately enabling them to reach customers in Europe with greater efficiency and reliability.
CEO Issam Darui emphasized the company’s goal of becoming a logistics leader connecting Africa and Europe. “Our goal is to become a key player in logistics between Africa and Europe, offering innovative technological solutions to a sector undergoing transformation,” he said. This expansion comes at a time of growth and modernization within the African logistics industry, with Colis.ma aiming to lead the charge by leveraging technology to streamline cross-border delivery processes.
A Competitive Landscape in Moroccan Logistics
The Moroccan logistics sector is competitive, with several players vying for dominance. Notably, Logidoo, another Morocco-based logistics startup, has been operating since 2019 and recently raised $1.55 million in seed funding in early 2024. Like Colis.ma, Logidoo is dedicated to enhancing logistics services in Morocco and has also received a $50,000 grant to develop AI-driven solutions tailored to Africa’s logistics needs.
Despite the competition, Colis.ma’s unique focus on cross-border logistics and its appeal to SMEs with direct ties to European markets set it apart. By fostering partnerships with established logistics providers and local businesses, the company has built a resilient network to support its ambitions in the cross-border logistics space.
Strategic Fundraising Plans for Market Expansion
Looking forward, Colis.ma is considering another fundraising round slated for early 2026, which will allow the company to further scale and capture additional market share within the logistics sector. Prior to the recent $300,000 pre-seed funding, Colis.ma had already secured $50,000 from The Baobab Network after participating in their accelerator program and won a $45,000 grant in early 2024. This early backing laid the groundwork for Colis.ma’s rapid growth and strengthened its commitment to connecting African and European markets.
As it continues to grow, Colis.ma is strategically positioning itself as a vital link between Africa and Europe, offering SMEs and individuals in Morocco an accessible and efficient means to conduct cross-border transactions. With a focus on innovative logistics solutions and expansion into new markets, Colis.ma is shaping the future of African logistics, one delivery at a time.
