Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative that has the potential to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape. With an impressive investment of N720 billion, the refinery plans to introduce 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks for the distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
Savings and Benefits
This ambitious initiative is anticipated to save Nigerians an astonishing N1.7 trillion each year, while also providing advantages to over 42 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering energy expenses and improving profitability. The program aims to eliminate transportation costs for fuel marketers and large consumers, which may result in decreased pump prices and lower inflation rates. Furthermore, the initiative is expected to generate more than 15,000 direct jobs throughout the logistics chain and promote economic development by lowering production costs and alleviating inflationary pressures. Additionally, this program will assist in reducing cross-border smuggling of petroleum products and foster a more efficient and environmentally sustainable distribution network.
The presidency has lauded the initiative, characterizing it as a crucial milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to integrate gas-powered transportation. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has also expressed support for the initiative, deeming it a timely solution to persistent issues in the downstream sector.
