Delta Air Lines to Launch Daily Flights from Lagos to New York by December 2024

Delta Air Lines, the United States’ oldest operating airline and the seventh-oldest globally, is set to reintroduce daily flights from Lagos to New York in December 2024. The airline plans to upgrade its aircraft for this route, transitioning from the Airbus A330-200, which seats 223 passengers, to the larger Airbus A330-900neo with a capacity of 281 passengers.

In a statement released on Monday, Delta announced that the switch to the Airbus A330-900neo would increase passenger capacity while enhancing the overall travel experience. “This decision underscores Delta’s commitment to aligning its services with customer preferences and adapting to evolving air travel dynamics,” the airline said.

Mary Gbobaniyi, Delta’s Head of Sales for West Africa, expressed excitement about the expansion, emphasising the perfect timing for adding more flights to the Nigerian market. She highlighted that the larger aircraft will provide more options and elevate the experience for customers.

“Delta’s mission to connect the world opens new opportunities, promotes understanding, and connects people to their full potential,” Gbobaniyi stated. “By continuously monitoring customer preferences and travel patterns, Delta ensures that it meets demand by expanding capacity to the most sought-after destinations.”

According to Delta, the decision to increase services between Lagos and New York was driven by customer feedback and strong demand in the Nigerian market.

Travel Recommendations for Passengers

Delta advises passengers on flights from Lagos to arrive at the airport for check-in at least three hours before departure to mitigate potential airport security delays. Additionally, passengers are encouraged to complete check-in at least 90 minutes prior to departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. Late arrivals at the check-in counters will not be accommodated.

Passengers flying the New York-Lagos route in Delta’s premium class will enjoy exclusive access to the Delta One Lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This lounge offers gourmet dining, luxurious seating, and personalised services, providing a serene pre-flight experience that complements Delta’s premium travel offerings.
