DigiTax, a leading eTims tax compliance solution provider based in Kenya and owned by Namiri Technology, has officially launched its operations in Zambia. This expansion follows the Zambian government’s recent adoption of electronic invoicing regulations, which aim to streamline tax compliance and enhance revenue collection.
To spearhead its operations in Zambia, DigiTax has appointed Gilbert Lungu as the new Country Manager. Lungu brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously held leadership positions such as Sales and Marketing Manager at MTN Business Zambia, National Enterprise Sales Manager at MTN, and Head of Enterprise Sales at Airtel Zambia. He has also served as the Country Manager for Cellulant Zambia and as a Commercial Consultant for Hobbiton Technologies Limited, a local fintech company.
New Smart Invoice Regulations
DigiTax’s entry into Zambia comes at a crucial time, with the country implementing new electronic invoicing regulations under the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 2023. These regulations require businesses to adopt Smart Invoices starting from July 1, 2024, replacing the former Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs). The goal is to enhance efficiency, reduce tax fraud, and boost government revenue collection.
The Smart Invoice system introduced by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) will electronically manage and transmit invoice and inventory data directly to the tax authority. This is a more comprehensive system than EFDs, which were limited to VAT and Insurance Premium Levy (IPL). The new system extends to include various other taxes such as Sales Tax, Rental Income, Tourist Tax, Local Electricity Consumption Tax, and more.
The launch of DigiTax in Zambia positions the company as a key player in helping businesses comply with the new e-invoicing and tax requirements. Caine Wanjau, CEO of Namiri Technology, emphasized the significance of this expansion, expressing his excitement about the opportunity to support Zambian businesses in navigating these changes.
DigiTax offers a robust, user-friendly platform that integrates seamlessly with existing business management systems. The platform provides businesses with a comprehensive dashboard for monitoring compliance and staying aligned with ZRA regulations.
DigiTax will be competing with several ZRA-approved software vendors, including Zamcube ERP Solution, ISHYGA, and EBIZFRAME, as businesses transition to Smart Invoice systems.
The expansion of DigiTax into Zambia not only marks a significant milestone for the company but also aligns Zambia with other African countries such as Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, and Mauritius that have embraced electronic invoicing regulations.
