Nigerian electric mobility startup Ecowaka Limited has officially launched its three-wheeled electric tricycles, offering a clean, cost-effective alternative to traditional public transport. The rollout marks a key milestone in the country’s shift toward environmentally conscious commuting.

Amid skyrocketing fuel prices, growing urban congestion, and rising climate concerns, Ecowaka is positioning itself at the forefront of Nigeria’s green mobility movement. Its new electric tricycles—locally known as keke—promise to transform urban commuting with advanced technology, efficient charging, and a cleaner environmental footprint.

“We’re building more than electric vehicles—we’re building a cleaner future, creating jobs, and giving commuters a smarter alternative,” said Prince Ojeabulu, Founder and CEO of Ecowaka. “This is about local innovation solving real problems.”

A Smarter, Greener Keke for Nigerian Roads

Ecowaka’s three-wheeled EVs are designed with Nigeria’s transportation challenges in mind. Each unit is powered by an 8kWh battery that supports a top speed of 50 km/h and a driving range of up to 120 kilometers per charge. The vehicle comfortably accommodates a driver and three passengers, offering a practical solution for both personal and commercial use.

What sets Ecowaka apart is its dual charging model. Drivers can choose between a 5-minute battery swap or a 45-minute station charge, both enabled by the company’s fast-expanding charging infrastructure. Smart features include a digital dashboard, GPS tracking, USB charging ports, and mobile app integration—positioning the vehicle as one of the most tech-forward options in Nigeria’s transport scene.

Inclusive Pricing and Local Conversion Options

To accelerate adoption, Ecowaka offers multiple entry points for operators. A brand-new electric tricycle is priced from ₦2.6 million, while a conversion kit for petrol-powered kekes starts from ₦2.3 million. This inclusive pricing strategy ensures affordability and encourages a smooth transition for drivers already working within the system.

Additionally, by reducing dependence on petrol, operators can cut fuel costs by up to 60%, creating long-term savings and improved profitability for small transport businesses.

Beyond Vehicles: A Full Ecosystem Approach

Ecowaka is not just launching EVs—it’s building a robust ecosystem to support its rollout. The company is investing in local assembly, driver training programs, and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in tech, logistics, and environmental advocacy. Its goal: to scale operations across major Nigerian cities and set a precedent for clean transport throughout Africa.

The launch has already attracted attention from investors and urban planners eager to support cleaner alternatives to traditional transport models. With Nigeria’s cities under pressure to modernize and decarbonize, Ecowaka’s timing couldn’t be more relevant.
