Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has informed its customers of an upcoming migration of its core banking system, which will result in a temporary disruption of banking services. The transition to a more advanced suite of Finacle Core Banking Application Systems will commence on Friday, October 11, 2024, and is scheduled for completion by Monday, October 14, 2024.
According to an official notice, GTBank branches across the country will close early at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, reopening at their regular hours on Monday, October 14th, at 9:00 a.m..
Additionally, the bank has warned customers of 11 hours of temporary disruption in its digital banking services. These disruptions will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13th, and end by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14th.
During this period, while customers will still be able to perform certain limited transactions—such as transfers, bill payments, and airtime/data purchases via GTBank’s digital channels—other services may be unavailable.
Benefits of the System Migration
GTBank has emphasised that this migration reflects its commitment to leveraging technology for better service delivery. The bank’s notice states that the new system will enhance customer experience by offering seamless and frictionless interactions across its various customer touch points.
The bank added, “This transition will allow us to drive digital transformation and achieve insights-driven interactions, making banking easier for you.”
What You Should Know and How to Prepare
As GTBank migrates its core banking system, it’s crucial for customers to plan ahead and take steps to avoid any inconvenience during the scheduled service disruption. Here are a few ways to prepare:
1. Complete Important Transactions Before the Downtime
Since there will be temporary disruptions in banking services, ensure you complete any critical transactions, such as bill payments, transfers, or withdrawals, before 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13th.
2. Download Bank Statements and Receipts
If you need access to transaction records or receipts, download them ahead of time. This will help you avoid delays in case you need to provide proof of transactions during the downtime.
3. Top Up Airtime and Data
If you rely on GTBank’s services for purchasing airtime or data, it’s advisable to buy enough before the disruptions begin. Although airtime and data services will still be available during the transition, having extra on hand ensures you aren’t caught off guard.
4. Use Alternative Payment Methods
If you’re planning any purchases or bill payments during the disruption period, consider using alternative payment methods, such as cash, or other mobile payment platforms, to avoid being affected by the temporary outage.
5. Check for Regular Updates
GTBank has assured customers that they will be kept updated throughout the transition. Stay informed by following GTBank’s social media channels or signing up for notifications to receive the latest updates about service availability.
