The future isn’t waiting—and neither are Nigeria’s children. On June 14, 2025, Digital Equity Africa will make history as it hosts Kids Tech Fest: A Global AI Summit for Children, Africa’s first AI conference designed specifically for children, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

Targeted at children aged 6 to 16, the summit aims to immerse young Nigerians in the world of artificial intelligence through engaging sessions, hands-on workshops, and interactive exhibitions with the event tagged “Generation AI: Shaping the Future, One Mind at a Time”.

It’s not just about teaching kids to use technology—it’s about equipping them to create it.

But the event doesn’t stop with the kids. Parents, educators, and stakeholders in the education ecosystem will participate in parallel workshops that tackle everything from cyber safety to AI-integrated school curriculums.

A Pan-African Vision

More than a one-off event, the summit is part of a national movement. After Lagos, the series will move to Abuja, Kano, and Enugu, with the next location set to be announced during the Lagos conference.

At the heart of this initiative is an ambitious goal: reaching 100,000 Nigerian children in the first year through an AI Learning Community. This virtual hub will provide ongoing mentorship, digital learning resources, monthly challenges, and access to a global network of educators.

Storytelling Meets STEM

One of the highlights of the conference is the launch of Zina and the Thinking Machines, a children’s storybook that introduces AI concepts through the eyes of Zina, a curious Nigerian girl. With storytelling as its tool, the book demystifies AI for readers aged 6–12, encouraging digital curiosity while celebrating African identity. The theme for the Tech fest is

“This is more than a conference; it is a national movement,” said Justina Nnam Oha, convener of Kids Tech Fest. “We are setting the stage for African children to not only understand emerging technologies like AI but also take ownership of them. From Lagos to Kano, we are democratizing access to tech education for all.”
