MTN Group, one of Africa’s leading mobile network operators, has teamed up with UK-based video software provider Synamedia to create an innovative streaming platform tailored to mobile and fixed broadband subscribers across the continent. The new service promises a unique blend of linear TV and video-on-demand content, aiming to transform digital content access for African audiences.
Transforming Entertainment in Africa
MTN’s partnership with Synamedia marks a significant step in enhancing digital content accessibility across Africa. The service will offer a variety of monetisation models, including subscriptions, ad-supported content, and free streaming channels with targeted advertising. This approach aims to meet the diverse needs of African consumers while delivering locally relevant content that resonates with different cultures and languages across the continent.
Selorm Adadevoh, MTN’s Group Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the opportunity to leverage cutting-edge technology and customer insights to provide African audiences with high-quality and culturally relevant entertainment, adding, “We see a unique opportunity to transform video consumption in Africa with high-quality, accessible, and relevant content.”

The new platform is designed to drive digital inclusion by making high-quality entertainment accessible to a wider audience, particularly via smartphones. With Synamedia’s advanced cloud-based technologies, the service aims to scale quickly and offer a seamless viewing experience, bridging the digital divide in the process.
