In a bold move to fast-track Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic diversification, the Federal Government has announced plans to establish industrial hubs in four key states: Lagos, Ogun, Kano, and Abia.

This initiative, revealed by Senator John Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, during the 16th National Council on Industry, Trade, and Investment in Lagos, is part of a broader strategy to create inclusive, innovation-driven, and sustainable industrial growth across the country.

Driving Economic Transformation Through Regional Hubs

The proposed industrial hubs will serve as regional growth engines, strategically located to harness each state’s industrial strengths. Lagos and Ogun—already commercial powerhouses—will complement the industrial potential in Kano and Abia, two states rich in manufacturing history and skilled labor.

The hubs are a direct outcome of the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG), a cross-sectoral initiative launched in February 2025 to revitalise Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. The IRWG emphasizes collaboration, policy consistency, and evidence-based reforms.

Senator Enoh affirmed that the industrialisation project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic diversification, job creation, and the reduction of Nigeria’s overreliance on imports.

“This marks the beginning of full-scale industrialisation. Every reform, every investment must now build toward a globally competitive and inclusive economy,” Enoh stated.

A Call to Action for Stakeholders

The government is calling for collective action from stakeholders—including the private sector, state governments, and development partners—to make the IRWG initiative a success.

There are also plans to activate dormant industrial zones, finance MSMEs more effectively, and foster employment-generating industrial clusters.

“The establishment of industrial hubs is a strategic move to stimulate regional economies, unlock manufacturing capacity, and create thousands of jobs,” Enoh added.

Why This Matters for Nigeria’s Future

This initiative could mark a turning point for Nigeria’s industrial landscape. By creating region-specific hubs that leverage local resources, infrastructure, and talent, the country can build a resilient and competitive manufacturing sector.

With consistent policy implementation and cross-sectoral collaboration, Nigeria is poised to evolve into a significant manufacturing hub on the African continent.
