Shell Appoints Ronald Adams as New Managing Director of Deep-Water Subsidiary in Nigeria

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), the deep-water subsidiary of Shell in Nigeria, has announced the appointment of Ronald Adams as its new Managing Director. This was disclosed in an official statement released by Gladys Afam-Anadu, Shell Nigeria’s Media Relations Manager, on Tuesday.

Adams, who previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic LNG in Trinidad and Tobago, succeeds Elohor Aiboni, who has transitioned to an international assignment as Asset Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum.

The statement emphasised that both appointments took effect on October 1, 2024.

A New Era of Leadership at SNEPCo

Ronald Adams brings 32 years of experience in the energy sector, having guided numerous ventures—both Shell-operated and non-operated—through complex commercial and technical challenges. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of the West Indies and an MBA in Strategic Planning from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Adams remarked, “I’m excited at the opportunity to be part of the success story of SNEPCo and look forward to joining the team of talented staff to deliver even more value to stakeholders.”

Elohor Aiboni, who led SNEPCo since August 2021, has been lauded for her accomplishments in deep-water production and cost-efficient operations. During her tenure, Aiboni spearheaded key initiatives that strengthened SNEPCo’s position in deep-water oil production in Nigeria.

Reflecting on her time as Managing Director, Aiboni stated, “It has been an honour to work alongside colleagues and external stakeholders to build a safe, simpler, and cost-disciplined business that continues to lead in deep-water operations in Nigeria. I’m particularly grateful for the invaluable support and encouragement of our concessionaire and co-venture partners.”

Her appointment as Asset Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum marks a significant career milestone and reinforces Shell’s confidence in her capabilities to deliver on a global stage.

Shell’s Commitment to Nigeria’s Energy Future

Osagie Okunbor, Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, expressed his confidence in the future of SNEPCo under Adams’ leadership. “I’m pleased to welcome Ronald to Nigeria to consolidate and further improve the outstanding performances of SNEPCo in deep-water production and life-changing social investments across Nigeria. I also wish to congratulate Elohor for her remarkable contributions during her time at SNEPCo. Her assignment in Brunei presents another great opportunity to showcase her leadership and expertise within the Shell Group.”

SNEPCo’s Pioneering Role in Deep-Water Oil Development

SNEPCo has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s deep-water oil production since 2005, when it began operations at the Bonga oil field. Bonga, the country’s first deep-water development project, has a daily capacity of 225,000 barrels through the Bonga Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, located 120 kilometres offshore in the Gulf of Guinea.
