UBA Unveils Upgraded PoS Terminal and Revamped MONI App to Drive Digital Payments Across Africa

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has launched a major upgrade to its Point of Sale (PoS) terminal and MONI App, signaling a bold move to reshape Africa’s digital payment landscape. With a focus on empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and boosting financial inclusion, the bank’s latest innovations align with its ongoing campaign, Innovation for Progress: Empowering SMEs, Connecting Communities, Simplifying Banking.

Built to serve businesses of all sizes and offer the speed, reliability, and convenience today’s merchants demand. The terminal is a complete solution that helps businesses stay competitive by simplifying transactions and improving customer trust.

MONI App: Strengthening Agency Banking

The MONI App, central to UBA’s agency UK banking model, has also been revamped to better support agents, especially in underserved communities. In addition to these, the app retains its core offerings—account opening with BVN/NIN, cash deposits and withdrawals, airtime and data purchases with agent discounts, and instant PoS deployment—making it a critical tool for grassroots financial services.

Enabling Growth Through Innovation

UBA executives emphasized that these updates are part of a broader strategy to support Africa’s evolving business ecosystem with smart, secure, and scalable digital tools.

“This next-generation PoS is a powerful business tool,” said Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking. “And with the MONI App, we’re helping agents grow their businesses while serving millions.”
