The United Kingdom has made it easier for Nigerians to apply for visas with the launch of its largest Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Africa, located in Ikeja, Lagos. This new centre, managed by VFS Global, joins existing facilities in Abuja and Victoria Island, making the visa process faster and more convenient.
What’s New?
The Ikeja centre is packed with features designed to improve the experience for applicants:
- Document upload help: No need to stress about submitting your paperwork correctly.
- Longer hours: More flexibility for busy schedules.
- Real-time updates: SMS notifications keep you informed.
- Courier services: Get your passport delivered to your doorstep.
- Premium options: A special lounge for a smoother, more personalized service.
- Keep your passport: You don’t have to surrender it while waiting for your visa.
In addition, people in Abuja can now use a Mobile Visa Service, allowing them to apply without visiting a physical centre.
Why It Matters
Nigeria is one of the UK’s biggest visa markets. In the year leading up to June 2024, over 225,000 Nigerians applied for UK visas, representing 5% of all global applications.
British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter explained the significance of this new centre: “Nigeria is one of the UK’s most important partners. This facility will make visa services more accessible for Nigerians.”
Marc Owen, Director of UK Visas and Immigration, echoed this sentiment, saying the centre reflects the UK’s commitment to providing top-notch visa services.
