At the 18th annual Titans of Tech Awards, which took place over the weekend in Lagos, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board’s (LASUBEB) EKOEXCEL shone brightly.
At the industry event, the intervention—launched in 2019 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reform Lagos public elementary schools through technology deployment—was recognized with the Most Innovative Digital Learning Platform of the Year Award.
Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, a former executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and chairman of MTN Nigeria, presided over this year’s awards ceremony, which honored trailblazing inventors, people, organizations, governments, and those who use ICT to benefit society. Additionally, it honors excellence and unwavering dedication to using ICT for constructive interventions in Nigeria.
The competition organizers hailed it as the premier Nigerian digital platform, digitizing education for national development and educating students for the 21st century when presenting the Most Innovative Digital Learning Platform of the Year Prize.
Wahab Alawiye-King, the executive chairman of LASUBEB, expressed his gratitude for the honor in a statement on the prize he earned.
The honor, according to him, was humble and demonstrated Sanwo-Olu’s foresight and dedication to advancing elementary education through technology.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to accept this honor on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s behalf. Before dedicating it to all its stakeholders, Alawiye-King said, “This demonstrates that his commitment to public education produces fruitful consequences. We dedicate this honor to all the students, instructors, and head teachers in appreciation of their support.”
He added that the awards were a terrific opportunity to promote positive behavior, develop a spirit of competition, and propel the business to new heights.
Since its debut, it has persisted in recording visible improvements among instructors and students, resulting in better learning outcomes for students and more qualified teachers.
From 1,011 public elementary schools, more than 14,000 instructors have been recruited for the program. Technology (e-Learning) has also improved the teacher-student interaction experience in primary schools in Lagos State.
Through the “Leave No Child Behind” program, EKOEXCEL has also dramatically improved student learning results and significantly decreased the number of out-of-school children in the state.
The Pan African Digital Initiative Summit & Expo (P.A.D.I.S.E. 2022), which included some of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s technology and security sectors, took place before the awards ceremony.
Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria, gave the keynote address at the summit. After that, the EXPO was opened, with EKOEXCEL as one of many exhibitors showcasing their goods and services.
